Compare and contrast the properties of a tropical cyclone to an extra tropical cyclone.?

The main differences are that tropical cyclones are warm core lows that have no fronts ociated with them and their maximum winds are close to the center. They derive their energy from the release of latent heat via condensation of water vapor. Extra-tropical cyclones are former tropical cyclones that have transitioned into cold core lows and may have fronts ociated with them. They are driven by strong temperature gradients and the strongest winds typically are far removed from the center.
