Auditioning for a musical?

if i wanted to audition for musical, suppose it was little shop of horrors and i really wanted to be audrey, i think her voice part is a soprano, but i am a mezzo-soprano to an alto, would it be possible for me to lower her part down a couple of octaves to better match my voice?
