What would happen if the world awakened as envisioned by Eckhart Tolle?

I have read Power of Now and 50 or so pages in to A New Earth. My head is absolutely messed up at the moment though. Does Eckhart Tolle really think the world is going to become conscious, free of the egoic mind? And what would happen if it did? Would humanity no longer progress? Would we revert back to the stone age? If we were free of the egoic mind then we would no longer desire things, right? There would be no inventions? As it is the ego that is responsible for these inventions, right? If you are free of the egoic mind and are just Being, then you are happy with your current state and have no incentive for change. right? Would we all be like zombies? If I follow what Eckhart Tolle was saying would I become like a zombie and have no personality at all? Be a big bore and have no friends? I am just so ******* confused right now? Since I read this book, everything just seems pointless. I was listening to a song and it just seems like something material that was invented by humans, it didn't seem real anymore. The human ego invented the instruments, created the sounds, recorded them together, etc. Everything just doesn't seem the same no more. I feel like he is telling us to just walk around or sit down even and stare at the sky and just Be. God my brain is so ****** up right now. I think this book could make people commit suicide.
