Books about the Balkans?

Does anyone know any good nonfiction about the Balkans region of Eastern Europe? Specifically former Yugoslavia? The history of that area is so incredibly complex and I'd like to at least have a better understanding of it before I go to Croatia in the fall but I'm having problems sorting through the multitudes. So if anyone's already read something, that'd be fantastic!
